FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Picture
Q) Where do I go to get my blood drawn?
A) We arrange a personalized blood draw with a licensed phlebotomist at no extra charge (unless you chose a home draw) that will be done at a time that is convenient for you. Once you've placed your order, we ask you to call us toll free 877-468-6934 to customize your blood draw. (Not just provide you a script and have you do the work.)

Q) What laboratory will analyze my blood tests?
A) The lab we choose is based on the tests you choose to order. All our labs are Reference Labs. A reference lab is a lab that sets the standard for other labs. They are the benchmark (they are like the Supreme Court of labs). Labs that are not reference labs are periodically asked to send samples to reference labs for verification that they are doing their tests correctly. Furthermore, reference labs usually have the newest equipment, which also helps ensure (if used) the best results for you. Note, insurance and Medicare rarely authorize the use of the most accurate equipment.

Q) Can I order if I live outside the United States?
A) Yes. YFH will work with you on your next trip to the United States. Call YFH at 352-253-2414 to learn how. YFH provides the doctor's order, the protocols, and the follow up for your test. We can coordinate your test arrangements wherever you are staying while in the U.S.. The results will be sent to you by email. Attending our free group telephone conference calls will help you understand your blood test results and what action you should take.

Q) Who orders the blood tests for me?
A) YFH contracts with physicians who will order your tests but will not diagnose or treat you and cannot act as your personal doctor.

Q) Will I receive an actual prescription for these blood tests?
A) YFH will send you a blood test kit which will contain the doctor's order/script, the tubes properly labeled for the tests you've ordered, and a prepaid mailing envelope. (Not just the script.) In most cases, the draw site will ship the blood for you. Your kit should arrive within 5–7 business days from the time your order is placed.

Q) Is there an expiration date on my blood test order?
A) Yes. Your blood test kit is only good for 45 days from the date you receive it. However, we can process your order and delay shipping your kit until your ready to schedule your blood draw.

Q) How and when will I get my results?
A) Results from YFH will be sent to you 2 day priority. For faster service, they can be e-mailed. For security reasons, we do not offer the option of viewing results online, nor do we fax them. Results usually arrive within 7–18 business days from the date of the blood draw, depending on the complexity of the blood tests ordered.

Q) Who can explain the results to me?
A) Discuss your blood test results with your personal physicians and/or health care provider. You can also register for one of our phone conferences (free of charge) to understand your blood test results. Many of our clients find that it is helpful to attend a phone conference before talking with their doctor so that they are better informed.

Q) Why not just go to my own doctor and have him/her order blood tests for me?
A) We can probably save you a lot of money thanks to our lab partnerships. We offer unique blood tests you won’t find elsewhere. And, your own doctor may not be authorized to write a prescription for blood tests for preventive purposes. The doctor must provide a diagnosis code to justify ordering tests for you. There is no diagnosis code for preventive blood testing.

Q) Are these tests covered by my insurance company?
A) This blood test service is for educational purposes only and no specific medical advice, ICD-9 codes, Tax ID’s or CPT codes will be provided. When you purchase a blood test from YFH, you are doing so with the understanding that you are privately paying for these tests. There is absolutely no billing to Medicare, Medicaid or private insurance. However, the "upside" of self pay testing with YFH is that YFH does not report your results to the (MIB) Member Insurance Bureau. We protect your right to privacy.

Q) What is a reference laboratory?
A) A reference laboratory is a laboratory qualified to determine the accuracy of test scores when there are questions about the test results from other labs.

Q) When is the toll-free customer service line available?
A) Our customer service reps are available to serve you between the hours of 9am and 5pm EST Monday thru Friday. However, you can schedule an evening call if needed.

Q) I have already ordered and had my blood drawn... can I add an additional test without having to get my blood re-drawn?
A)  It depends.  Automated and manual differentials, serum zinc, Red Blood Cell Anaylsis, Glutathione, Omega3 Profile Plus and VAP can NOT be added after you have had your blood drawn.  Most additional tests can be added after your blood is drawn as long as there is enough blood serum remaining and it has not been longer than fourteen days since your blood draw.  If you meet these requirements, please call us toll-free at 877-468-6934 so we can promptly add the tests you want to your order. (YFH policy unlike most blood testing companies is to collect extra serum and freeze it so you can be notified if extra tests are needed to clarify a suspicious score.)

Q) I have already been tested at another lab, can I send you my test results and have you interpret them?
A)  No.  But why, you ask… Unfortunately consistency of protocol is not a given in the blood test industry.  YFH has invested substantial amounts of time and money to develop the high quality, accurate system we use for all of our blood tests today.  Because other labs line load and do not always use the best and newest equipment, it would be irresponsible of us to provide any interpretation of results from another lab.

Our system is designed to receive blood test results electronically.  This allows us to minimize the time involved in receiving information, to ensure accuracy and to keep costs down.  The process of having our computer talk to the lab computer requires a detailed, expensive, and consistent process.  Different labs report their scores differently, use different tests and equipment, use different reference ranges and so on. It is imperative to find disease at it's earliest stage. Blood test results must be able to be consistantly compared each test time. Apples and oranges are both fruit but they are very different. This is true with blood testing as well, for example a CA-125 with a reference range of 0-20 cannot be compared to a CA-125 with a reference range of 0-35. Manually receiving, reviewing, interpreting, processing and reporting on another lab’s tests is not only not cost effective... it would be a disservice.

It would be rare that another blood testing company would run the complete series of tests that we run and statistically compare your scores to our 40 year database and therefore the interpretation would fall short of our high standards.

YFH would like to be able to offer interpretations however, it simply is not possible.

Q) Can infants be tested?
A) Yes, infants can be (and have been) tested.  Getting a child started on the right nutrition plan at an early age gives them the best foundation for learning, muscle development, and behavioral issues, which will impact the child for the rest of his/her life.

Q) If the serum zinc, manual differential, and manual red blood cell morphology tests as so important, why are they not available in the Test Only division?
A)  The Test Only division was designed for health professionals and their patients.  One of their needs was to keep the pricing as low as possible.  The serum zinc, manual differential and manual red blood cell morphology are some of the most expensive and hard to run tests we offer.

Q) Is the manual differential and manual red blood cell morphology the same as live blood cell analysis or darkfield microscopy?
A) No.  The manual differential and manual red blood cell morphology tests are very specialized tests performed by highly skilled lab technicians.  Secondly, they are quantitative in nature.  Live blood cell analysis is subjective in nature because your analysis is strictly based on the skill level and interpretation of the person doing the analysis.

Additionally, the results you receive from live blood cell analysis cannot be used for diagnosing or treating illness or disease.  Furthermore, it is not well respected by doctors and would rarely, if ever, be considered or even looked at by your personal physician.  Manual red and white blood cell analysis (what we do) on the other hand, is considered very useful by doctors and is frequently used to diagnose and treat illness and disease.

To learn more about manual differential and manual red blood cell morphology please go  here.

Q) I notice you test blood type in each first-time HealthPrint. Are your nutritional suggestions the same as the ones in the "Eat Right For Your Type" diet book?
A)  While YFH agrees with Dr. Peter D’Adamo that blood type is an important consideration, the nutritional suggestions made by YFH are not the same as the ones in his book.  Our nutritional suggestions are customized based on your blood type and blood test results rather than just being based on your blood type.

Q) What do I do if I have lost my blood test kit or envelope?
A)  Please call our toll-free number: 1-877-GO-TO-YFH (877-468-6934) and speak with customer service.  They will assist you.  Lost kits and requisitions will have to be replaced. In the event that a kit is lost a fee of $40.00 is required to reissue your kit.
