BLOOD TESTS EXPLAINED U - Z
U
Uric Acid (Kidneys)
A by-product of protein metabolism eliminated through the kidneys. Uric acid is an indicator of kidney function. Uric acid results from the breakdown of nucleic acids, which are complex molecules that store genetic information.
V
VAP – Expanded cholesterol test (Heart Disease)
This is a revolutionary new cholesterol test. It is able to identify whether cholesterol problems are in the genes or only due to improper diet and lack of exercise. In 90% of abnormal cholesterol problems, proper diet, exercise, and supplementation can correct the imbalance—even when it is genetic. Standard cholesterol tests usually include total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, and triglycerides scores. The VAP test includes all of these traditional measures AND a detailed breakdown of the exact forms of HDL and LDL particles present in your blood. New research is showing that some HDL and LDL particles are big and fluffy (these particles are better) and some particles are small and dense (these particles are much more dangerous). This test quantifies all of these measures for you. It also indicates what pattern you are—your pattern refers to your genetic risk factor for heart disease. You will either be a pattern A (best), B (worst), or AB (in the middle).
Every person should do this test at least once, even children. This test is directly related to the Omega 3 Score test in that the VAP test can be improved by knowing the amount of fish oil (EPA) your body needs to correct your VAP scores – this is precisely what the Omega 3 Score test tells you. The VAP test is available under both the HealthPrint and Test Only divisions of our company. It is a stand-alone test and can be ordered individually or added to a Basic HealthPrint or Test Only Wellness Panel.
W
White Blood Cell Count – WBC (CBC)
This test counts the white blood cells (leukocytes) present in the blood. White blood cells are the body's primary defense against disease and infections. Compared to the number of red blood cells in the body, there are very few white blood cells. There are several types of white blood cells (atypical lymphocytes, bands, basophils, eosinophils, lymphocytes, monocytes, and neutrophils), but this test does not differentiate between types. It is simply an aggregate sum of all the white blood cells.
Z
Zinc, Serum (Minerals)
Zinc is a mineral with a key role in maintaining a healthy body. It activates enzymes that metabolize proteins, nucleic acids, and other vital bodily processes. Zinc is involved in the production and storage of insulin in the pancreas. In addition, it helps maintain healthy skin tissue. Also involved in the production of testosterone. It is essential for the proper functioning of the prostate gland and sperm production. 80% of our clients are low in zinc.
This test is only available in the HealthPrint division of our company. It is very specialized and requires special handling. As a result, this test is expensive. We need this test to generate the customized nutrition analysis involved in each HealthPrint. Because customized nutrition analysis is not included in the Test Only division. The reduced price of the Test Only Wellness Panel (versus a Basic HealthPrint) reflects the absence of this important test.
